NIEA Job Description: Project Coordinator

The National Indian Education Association is seeking resumes from highly motivated individuals to work on a full time basis as Project Coordinator that will coordinate and facilitate a new organizational initiative focused on high school reform.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the management of daily operations of the initiative; serve as the primary point of contact for the initiative; liaise with taskforce members and other partners; research high school reform in Indian Country; coordinate logistics for meetings and travel; write publications, including newsletter inserts, broadcasts, and briefing papers; manage website content related to the initiative; coordinate production of documents with consultants; and participate in the Campaign for High School Equity, a coalition of organizations working on high school reform initiatives.

The coordinator will also interview schools that have demonstrated success in graduating Native students through the use of language and cultural instruction to provide a basis of what is working in high schools in Indian Country and to collect the information need to support policies promoting culturally based education.

The Project manager will be expected to travel approximately 30 days through-out the year, including the NIEA Annual Conventions.

About the NIEA and the High School Reform Initiative: Founded in 1969, NIEA is the largest organization in the nation dedicated to Native education advocacy and professional development issues, embracing a membership of over 3,000 American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian educators, tribal leaders, school administrators, teachers, parents, and students. NIEA collaborates with all tribes to advocate for the unique educational and culturally-related academic needs of Native students and to ensure that the federal government upholds its responsibility for the education of American Indians.

The primary goal of the NIEA’s CHSE Initiative is to raise national awareness regarding

1) achievement levels/gaps in Native student performance, access to high quality teachers, access to college ready curriculum and funding for high school reform in Indian Country and

2) policy recommendations for garnering wider implementation of best practices and college ready policies.

Employment Requirements:



• Research in the field of education and policy experience required.
• Experience working with tribes preferred.
• Experience collecting and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data.
• The applicant must be able to commit to a two year contract.
